It is probably safe to say that Malikah Shabazz is not upholding the image of her father, Malcolm X. At the age of 46, X’s youngest daughter has been sentenced to 5 years of probation for stealing $55,000 from an elderly woman by charging on credit cards in the woman’s name. Shabazz is required by the courts to pay off the debt in full. If she fails to do so, she could get up to 7 years behind bars. NYDailyNews.comreports:
“Queens District Attorney Richard Brown accused Shabazz of ‘preying upon the trusting nature’ of Khaula Bakr, a family friend and widow of one of the slain civil rights leader’s bodyguards. Prosecutors say she opened credit card accounts in Bakr’s name. Bakr, 70, discovered the theft when she got a letter from her bank demanding nearly $30,000 in payments for an overdue account. Shabazz was arrested in March after social service workers went to her rural North Carolina home to investigate a complaint that her 13-year-old daughter wasn’t attending school.”
According to reports, Shabazz’s family members did not attend this latest court hearing. They did however come out to support her at her March Queens Supreme Court hearing when she first faced felony charges. NYDailyNews.com reports that “Shabazz pleaded guilty to first-degree identity theft last month…[and that] Shabazz declined to comment on the sentence afterward, except to note ‘I haven’t been in New York City since 1999.’”

A very troubled young woman; I hope she gets the help needed; she has brought so much disgrace to her family particularly her late mom and dad. They must be quite restless even as they lay in their graves.
This is very tragic on the part of this young lady…She has disrespected her family’s name by being a betrayer of their legacy by stealing from a family friend…This family has been under a cloud of evil for over fifty years, maybe this sister might want to get in touch with someone connected to the Mother Land, who’s into ancestral worship to help remove some of this evil that is clinging to this family and her…

I agree with you Gene. If the sister’s family have been cursed as has been suggested she needs a much higher power than some witch doctor.
I don’t know about that (‘Jesus needing’) and the criticisms of this lady: “Malcolm” (El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz) started off the SAME way didn’t he? He was a slickster and a thief, so why can’t his daughter be?
Beware. God-willing. She may come out more potent with Islamic stances than the dad! He started-out a criminal and became one of our greatest Human Rights workers, and a servant of Allah (God). Peace & blessings Sister.
