Serena Dominates On Her Way to the Third Round of the US Open

Your Black World reports

Serena Williams took just 49 minutes to work her way into the third round of the U.S. Open this weekend.  Dutch qualifier Michaella Krajicek was no match for Williams, who is the favorite to win the entire tournament in spite of being seeded only 28th.

Serena won the first set in just 23 minutes and eventually overpowered her competitor to produce a strong showing.

This is a positive move for Williams, who has been battling illness and injury over the past year.  She did win two tournaments in the US this year and appears to be back in good shape.  She has won 13 grand slams during her career and hopes to add to the list this year.

Serena’s sister, Venus Williams, withdrew from the US Open on Wednesday after announcing that she has the auto-immune disease Sjogren’s Syndrome.

“I know she’s a fighter and she’s really strong,” Serena said. “She’s great. I think she’s really happy now that she knows what it is after all this time.  “I think, if anything, it’s going to help her now to treat it and go forward.”
