Avatar actress Zoe Saladana graces the September cover of Latina. In the issue, Saladana discussed family, friends, love, her life after Avatar, and the emotional challenges she faced following the large success of the film. She stated the “constant traveling to different time zones to promote the movie caused her body to become extremely exhausted, driving her to an emotional breakdown.” Saladana said she is grateful for her family who helped her deal with the breakdown, and get the rest she needed. Zoe also credited her small circle of friends and her boyfriend, Kevin Britton as sources of support who genuinely have her best interest at heart.
The breakdown helped her to recognize that she needed to take time for herself, and she does just that. She added: “I just stay at home and do absolutely nothing. When I was younger, that would have made me feel like such a failure. Now that I’m older, I know what it means to shut down. I don’t shower if I don’t want to. I don’t answer e-mails. It’s a healthy way of being selfish. You know you’re old when gardening, the Food Network and voice notes from your nieces and nephews blow your mind.”
